Puerto Rico

We spent six days in Puerto Rico...you know...a "business trip!"  Kurt's office had a seminar for their marketing group in Puerto Rico.  So there were a total of six of us that enjoyed six days of sand, sun, and fun!  This was our view from our balcony.

This was a life size gingerbread house in the lobby of our resort.

 Back of our resort.

The beach was right outside our resort.

This was also the beach right outside our resort.  The mountains in the distance are the rainforest.

There were Christmas decorations and lights everywhere but we still had to remind ourselves several times that it was the holiday season.  The warm weather and beach kind of threw us off!  They had these huge light displays all over when you were out driving around the city.

During our drive to the resort, we got stuck in a traffic jam on the highway for about 3 hours.  The first hour was frustrating.  We got a little slap happy and silly the second hour.  Then by the third hour, we were all getting cranky.  A half hour drive took us almost 4 hours and we finally made it to our resort at 11pm.  This was a picture of us sitting in the mess!  We later found out that they had shut the road down because of a drug bust that had turned into a shootout and they were reenacting the crime.  I have to say, our resort was beautiful but the city was a dump!  It was very dirty with a lot of poverty.

We toured the Bacardi plant and drank some rum afterwards.

We hiked the rainforest.  It was amazing!  This is the only rainforest within the US territory and yes it rained on us...a couple times!  What a workout...but it was worth it to see these waterfalls!

A snail...they were all over the place.

 Peek-A-Boo Clare!

I LOVED all the vines hanging.

Me Tarzan...you Jane!

This was a 300+ year old tree we were standing in front of...it was AMAZING!

Our last night in Puerto Rico, we went on a bioilluminescent kayaking tour.  It sounds weird but it was really cool.  Basically, we paddled our way through mangroves out to a bay in the dark so that we could see these micro organisms that live in this bay.  When you would stir up the water with your paddle, the organisms would light up.  See...I told you it sounds weird but it was really cool!!
