Spirit of Peoria

Since Addison started talking, she would get so excited about the boats on the Illinois River whenever we drove over the bridge.  As she got older, she begged us to go for a boat ride.  So about a month ago, we tried to surprise her with a boat ride on the Spirit of Peoria.  It is a paddle boat that cruises up and down the river.  The day we tried to go was extremely busy and we never made it on the boat.  She was so disappointed.  Today, we tried again and we were able to get on.  We had gorgeous weather and it was nice and relaxing.  Addison was so excited!

 Addison LOVED the paddle wheel!

They believe that this is the shore line that Lewis and Clark first came to.

The colors on the trees were not quite as pretty as we hoped.

While we were on the boat, a local color guard had a ceremony.  They fired their riffles, played Taps, and then dumped the ashes of tattered American flags into the water.  It was pretty cool.  Several years ago, we had given one of our flags to them because they had told us that they would dispose of it properly, but we never really knew what they did with them.  So it was neat to watch!
