Skagway

When the boat docked in Skagway we separated from my parents.  They took a helicopter ride that dropped them off on a glacier and we got on a bus that took us to another boat that took us to another bus and took us to another boat!  ;)  It was quite a trip but sooooo well worth it.  That is my parents hanging out one of the windows of the cruise ship.

So after getting off the cruise ship, we got onto a jet boat that took us about 1 1/2 hours from port and dropped us off on a beach.  Along the way we saw many water falls, this one being the largest.  It was beautiful!  The natives would climb the mountain and cut down trees and then send the trees down this waterfall.

Along the coastline there were thousands of Harbor Seals.  They sounded like a pasture of cows!

This was the beach where the boat dropped us off.  We were headed to the Davidson Glacier in the background.

 First we ate lunch.

After another short bus ride and a short hike through the woods, we came to our canoes.  Yes the canoe had a motor on it.  I am thankful it had a motor because we had to paddle until we got out into the open lake before we could turn the motor on and that was enough paddling for me!

Our boat was headed to the glacier in the distance.

 Some native birds.

t
There was marble everywhere around the glacier.

Pictures just are not going to do the size of this glacier any justice!  The portion of it that is visible is a mile deep and seven miles long.  As our boat got closer to it, you could feel the temperature drop.  It was a weird feeling.  The air was also different around it.  It was so fresh and crisp.  I wanted to bottle it up!

And then we climbed the glacier...just kidding!  :)  These crazy people were climbing the glacier.  It took us awhile to find them but we did.  This picture is severely zoomed in and look at how small they still were.  They are in the picture above also if you can find them(towards the center of the picture.)  The glacier was AMAZING and well worth!

Most of Skagway is considered a historical landmark and so it is protected and preserved.  Most of the buildings date back to the gold rush.  The Red Onion is now a restaurant/bar but it was  originally a brothel.

Every inch of this building was covered in drift wood.  Kind of cool looking!

That is a massive snow blower attached to a train!

When we left Skagway we saw another lighthouse from the cruise ship.
